Who belongs to your family / who is living with you?
My wife and I have 4 kids who still are living with us.
How has bee keeping changed your life?
I am 64 years old and started beekeeping about 23 years ago. The beekeeping has impacted our live a lot. I was able to build a house for my family.
How do you provide a good environment for your bees?
I plant bee foraging plants and trees such as eucalyptus trees, caliandra trees as well as bottle brush.
What do trees mean to you and how can they be protected?
For my bees, trees are very important. The trees give forage for the bees as well as medicine. They provide shade for my bees and protects the soil.
What is the most important thing in your life?
The most important thing is educating all my children up to university.
What are your biggest challenges and how do you plan to overcome them?
I don’t have proper protective wear, airtight buckets if I have big sales then I can buy the protective gear.
Pest are a big challenge as well. I am regularly inspecting the beehives to keep pest out.
The price for honey in Kampala for honey and beeswax is higher than here in the village. Maybe, I can sell directly in the Kampala market.
What do like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy nature walks.
Which place would you like to see once?
I would like to travel to our neighbor country Kenya and visit Nairobi.
