The Life as Beekeeper
Who belongs to your family / who is living with you?
I am living with my father and mother.
How has beekeeping changed your life?
I am 17 years old and am doing beekeeping with the support of my father. From the 21 traditional beehives, which I manufactured myself, I usually harvest about 50 kg per season. My father is doing beekeeping as well and has 45 beehives. I am earning money from the sale of honey and with that I can get necessities of life like clothes, shoes and some school fees.
How do you provide a good environment for your bees?
All of my beehives are placed on stands. I clean the apiary and have planted some bee foraging plants for the bees to get nectar and pollen.
What do trees mean to you and how can they be protected?
Trees help against strong wind and provide shade for the bees and us as well as nectar and pollen for the bees, and medicine and some food for us. They can be protected by sensitizing the community on conservation.
What is the most important thing in your life?
My dream if having an own motorcycle.
What are your biggest challenges and how do you plan to overcome them?
I have no bee suits and smoker for harvesting but hope to buy both from the sale of the honey. Pests that disturb the bees in the hives are another challenge. I am cleaning the apiary and inspecting the hives regularly. I it hard to get good storage containers.
What do you like to do in your free time?
What I enjoy the most is watching videos.
Which place would you like to see once?
Dubai is the place I would like to see.
