The Life as Beekeeper

Who belongs to your family / who is living with you?

I am living with a friend. We have no kids.

How has beekeeping changed your life?

Though I has just started I have high hopes of enriching myself through beekeeping. I have only done beekeeping for 2 years but am progressing well. I have 60 beehives. 30 of them are traditional beehives and 30 are modern beehives with top bars. I am harvesting about 175kg per harvest.

How do you provide a good environment for your bees?

I am conserving a natural forest on my land without cutting the trees.

The trees are giving the bees forage through nectar and pollen. I have also planted some trees.

What do trees mean to you and how can they be protected?

Trees influence the climate change. They give shade, they protect the soil and other crops from strong winds and rain. Also, trees add fertility into the soil.

What is the most important thing in your life?

Having own land is the most important thing in my life.

What are your biggest challenges and how do you plan to overcome them?

Pests are the biggest problem on my apiary. I have tried to overcome this challenge by cleaning the apiary and putting the beehives on stands that are greased or oiled. Another challenge is that I am lacking protective gears. Finally, I am lacking skills in various aspects of beekeeping, apiary management, harvesting various products, post-harvest handling and others.

I hope to contact Bee House to train us in all those aspects of beekeeping.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love watching soccer in my free time.

Which place would you like to see once?

I would like to visit Dubai.
