“About 4 years ago, my then 8 years old Senyonjo encouraged me so much to do beekeeping. He promised that he will take good care of the bees and he won´t fear them. He loves beekeeping so much. We started it together and later expanded it to 25 beehives.

My Life as Beekeeper

Who belongs to your family / who is living with you?

We are a family of 3. My husband and I have one son.

How has bee keeping changed your life?

It has changed our lives since we have started selling the local hives to other people too. My son and I make the beehives ourselves.

We sell the honey as well and get money for it.

How do you provide a good environment for your bees?

We have put the hives in trees under shade. We clean the area where we put the hives. To support the bees, we planted some flowers for them.

What do trees mean to you and how can they be protected?

Trees are good. They help influence the rainfall. They protect us from very strong winds. They also protect the good soils from being washed away.

Trees add nutrients into the soil. And they provide shade for the bees and provide nectar and pollen for the bees.

What is the most important thing in your life?

Seeing my son reach University.

What are your biggest challenges and how do you plan to overcome them?

Pests disturb us but we keep cleaning the apiary to reduce them. We have a very old protective wear so we are not safe when harvesting we plan to buy another gear.

What do like to do in your free time?

I enjoy going to visit my friends in my free time.

Which place would you like to see once?

Any place abroad would be great to visit.
